About the Governor's Office:

The Governor's Office facilitates the daily management of state government. The office works closely with other state branches and entities to develop legislation, policies, and rules that govern the state.

About the Internship:

The summer internship program allows participants to work with state agency officials and participate in co-curricular components to enrich their experiences. Interns spend at least 50 percent of their time on predetermined projects that enhance college-level skills and abilities. The co-curricular components of the program ensure competitive, reputable, and inclusive experiential learning.

We are seeking enthusiastic and detail-oriented undergraduate or graduate interns to support the work of the Governor's Office. You will rotate among the Operations, Communications, Legal, and Legislative teams. You will participate in projects to enhance the outreach and engagement initiatives of the various teams. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about governmental project lifecycles from start to finish.

 

Possible projects include:

• Enhancing and improving the management and operation functions in the office.
• Improving engagement, online presence, and marketing initiatives.
• Researching legal, statutory, and regulatory requirements that impact policy and executive functions.
• Expanding communication, marketing, and engagement with the Legislative Branch.

This internship will require a professional, dependable, and personable presence. Interns must be organized and able to perform well-informed information gathering and research.

Salary : 

The hourly rate for this position is $16.24 per hour for those enrolled in undergraduate programs and $17.24 per hour for those with an earned bachelor's.

Location : 

This position is located in the Indiana State House in Downtown Indianapolis.

A Day in the Life:

Projects include:

• Identify and execute one major project related to agency needs and academic area of study.
• Work in the Governor’s Office, learn and assist with the day-to-day operations
• Collaborate on projects and assignments with the operations team, legal team, legislative team, and communications team
• Partner with other relevant stakeholders to promote and enhance the quality of projects.
• Assist in coordinating agency events, meetings, workshops, and presentations.
• Provide general administrative support, including scheduling, documentation, and data entry.

What You'll Need for Success:

Candidates:

• Should be personable, dependable, and professional to support a busy front office and have excellent oral and written communication skills. 
• Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education.
• Have academic work in a related field.
• Demonstrate the ability to:
  • Analyze data sets related to discipline.
  • Conduct well-informed research.
  • Solve complex, critical problems.
  • Review and make recommendations on proposed changes to relevant policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period
