Position Summary:

We are hiring a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) who brings lived experience, professional reliability, and a strong commitment to client care . Peer Support Specialists play a vital role in helping individuals navigate their recovery journey through encouragement, skill-building, and real-life connection. 

This is a field-based position — in-person client interaction is required at least twice per week . Strong documentation and writing skills are essential, and candidates must participate in weekly team meetings and demonstrate the ability to work independently while remaining connected to the team.

Core Responsibilities  

• Meet in-person with assigned clients a minimum of twice per week.
• Deliver peer support services based on recovery principles and the NC Clinical Coverage Policy 8G.
• Use your lived experience to build trust, promote hope, and support client-driven recovery goals.
• Support individuals in navigating housing, community resources, social services, and healthcare systems.
• Encourage development of independent living, coping, and decision-making skills.
• Assist clients in building natural supports and integrating into the community.
• Educate clients on their rights and help advocate for their needs.
• Attend and contribute to weekly team meetings and supervision.
• Document all services clearly and professionally in line with Medicaid and agency requirements.
• Support outreach efforts and help bring in new clients —a bonus is awarded for each new client referred and successfully onboarded.

What We’re Looking For:

• Must hold current NC CPSS certification.
• Lived experience in recovery from mental health and/or substance use.
• Minimum 6–12 months paid experience working with adults with serious mental illness.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Strong writing and documentation skills (this is not optional—our agency values clean, timely, and clear records).
• Willingness to meet clients in person in homes, shelters, or community spaces.
• Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and flexibility with scheduling.
• Team-oriented attitude with the ability to work independently.
• Comfortable bringing ideas, energy, and outreach efforts to the table.

Compensation & Bonus Structure:

• $18–$20 per hour , based on experience.
• Team bonuses based on performance and engagement.
• New client referral bonus for each successful client you bring into services.
